Blaklion has Wind-Op ahead of Second Grand National Bid

Blaklion, who is popular in the betting for the 2018 Randox Health Grand National, has recently been on the operating table to have wind surgery. Last year’s National fourth was last seen running well back in second in the Haydock National Trial – beaten some 54 lengths by Yala Enki – which promoted connections to get him checked out.

Nigel Twiston-Davies – his trainer – said recently “He’s had soft cauterisation of his palate, which is a very minor one. We gave him a galloping scope and that’s what came up.” “It was always the plan to miss Cheltenham and all is going well. He’s in great form.”

As a result of that last run and this wind-op news, the bookmakers have reacted by pushing him out slightly in the betting. However, having already won over the National fences when landing the Becher Chase back in December, this 9 year-old is still very popular at around 12/1. (odds are subject to change)
