Many of the most successful Grand National horses will run in the race more than once, so it’s worth reminding yourself of the horses, jockeys and trainers who have excelled at Aintree when deciding which of the 2024 Grand National runners to back. Whether you’re looking ahead to April or are still reminiscing over classic races, you can find Grand National winners from years gone by in our previous Grand National winners list below.

For a full recap of the most recent Grand National result, head straight to our 2023 Grand National race review.

Weight of previous Grand National winners

Although the likes of Tiger Roll and Many Clouds have tasted Grand National victory carrying over 11 stones, the weight of previous Grand National winners remains one of the most important trends when analysing past results. Seven of the last nine winners came home under the 11 stones mark, and between 1989 and 2004 not one winner was saddled with more than that weight. Here are the more recent weights of previous Grand National winners, ordered by their weight.

  • 11-09 Many Clouds (2015)
  • 11-06 Neptunes Collonges (2012)
  • 11-05 Tiger Roll (2019)
  • 11-05 Don’t Push It (2010)
  • 11-01 Hedgehunter (2005)
  • 11-00 Mon Mome (2009)
  • 11-00 Ballabriggs (2011)
  • 10-13 Tiger Roll (2018)
  • 10-12 Papillon (2000)
  • 10-11 Red Marauder (2001)
  • 10-11 One For Arthur (2017)
  • 10-10 Amberleigh House (2004)
  • 10-10 Noble Yeats (2022)
  • 10-09 Comply or Die (2008)
  • 10-08 Numbersixvalverde (2006)
  • 10-07 Rule The World (2016)
  • 10-07 Monty’s Pass (2003)
  • 10-06 Silver Birch (2007)
  • 10-06 Pineau De Re (2014)
  • 10-05 Corach Rambler (2023)
  • 10-04 Bindaree (2002)
  • 10-03 Auroras Encore (2013)
  • 10-03 Minella Times (2021)

As you can see, winning with over 11 stones is relatively rare, so don’t forget to run the rule over the 2024 Grand National entries and weights.

The 2023 Grand National winner gave Lucinda Russell her second victory in the Aintree spectacle and is expected to defend his crown in 2024.

#2

NOBLE YEATS flag

Form: P11344 / Age: 8 / Trainer: Emmet Mullins
Noble Yeats became the first 7 year old horse to win the Grand National since 1940, when he came home first in 2022. He was given more than a stone extra to carry in 2023 but still finished in a creditable fourth place, so would be worthy of consideration if he returns in 2024.
