63 Runners Remain In The Grand National

Grand National news is ramping up after the five-day forfeits on Monday (9th April). We are left with 63 horses remaining with the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Double Ross currently number 40 and in the cut-off position to guarantee a place in the race.

With a maximum of 40 runners then as it stands we’ll be losing 23 of the 63 horses still in the race and really it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing horses from 50-63 make the final cut.

Road To Riches (41), Thunder And Roses (42), Delusionofgrandeur (43), Walk In The Mill (44) and Vintage Clouds (45) are the ones that still have the best chance of making the race but would still need 5 of the top 40 to be declared non-runners.

After the latest declaration stage the bookmakers still make Tiger Roll, Blaklion, Anibale Fly and Total Recall the market leaders all around 10/1*.

The jockey bookings are also starting to take shape. Barry Geraghty, who rode the 2003 winner Monty’s Pass, will get the leg-up on Anibale Fly for his boss JP McManus, while Minella Rocco, Regal Encore and Pendra who will also run in the green and gold McManus silks will be ridden by Noel Fehily, Richie McLernon and Aidan Coleman.

Keith Donoghue, who was on Tiger Roll to win the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last month, will have his first ride in the race on Valseur Lido – another Gigginstown Stud-owned runner, while female rider Rachel Blackmore will look to become the latest lady to try to win the race for the first time – she rides Alpha Des Obeaux.
