Iroko can bounce back
Iroko disappointed when finishing 10th of 22 in the Ultima Handicap Chase at Cheltenham, but that run is easy enough to forgive given he was reported to have scoped badly the following day.
Prior to that, the Jonjo and AJ O’Neill-trained eight-year-old had been enjoying a strong campaign. He returned from wind surgery with a solid second behind subsequent King George winner The Jukebox Man at Haydock, before stepping forward to beat Firefox comfortably in a graduation chase at Ascot.
That Ascot success saw him shorten to around 5/1 for the Grand National, but his Cheltenham run has pushed his price out significantly, which could underestimate his chance.
He was sent off favourite for this race last year and ran with plenty of credit to finish fourth, beaten just over seven lengths behind Nick Rockett, I Am Maximus and Grangeclare West. Notably, he stayed on strongly in the closing stages, suggesting Aintree suits him well.
Now 5lb higher in the weights but still carrying a workable 11st 1lb, he looks capable of putting himself firmly back in the mix.
McManus has a strong hand
JP McManus once again holds a powerful hand, with I Am Maximus, Jagwar, Spillane’s Tower and Oscars Brother all featuring among the leading contenders.
Of that group, Oscars Brother makes plenty of appeal. He shaped like a thorough stayer when finishing fourth behind Kitzbuhel in the Grade 1 Brown Advisory at Cheltenham, staying on well over a trip that may not have fully played to his strengths.
He has taken well to fences this season, winning over an extended 2m6f at Galway before adding Grade 2 victories at Punchestown and Navan. Those performances highlight both his progression and his ability to handle different conditions.
Still relatively unexposed over fences, he has posted Racing Post Ratings of 157 on his last two starts, suggesting he may be better than his current mark of 155 and could have more to offer over a longer trip.

Who will win the Grand National?
It’s impossible to guarantee the Grand National winner, but the ante-post betting can help you identify the biggest contenders for the 2026 race. As you can see from the betting odds above, the 2024 winner, I Am Maximus is prominent in the betting.

Grand National Betting Odds Explained
The average odds of a winning Grand National horse are around 20/1 – while 25 of the last 32 Grand National winners returned a double-figure price.
Until recently, it was commonly assumed that horses carrying over 11 stone never win. This allowed punters to rule out a decent slice of the entrants. However, this trend is showing signs of reversal in recent years, not least in 2015 when Many Clouds carried the monster weight of 11st 9lb to victory, while since 2009 we’ve had six Grand National winners carry 11st or more in weight.
