2013 Grand National Psychic Challenge

Whilst finding the winner of the Grand National is never easy and is somewhat subject to luck and twists of fate, we've managed to tip 4 of the last 9 winners by meticulously studying form, trends and other considerations such as the going.

However, whilst our team of experts spend hours pouring over the form book, others have a far less conventional approach to picking the winner.

Dean "Midas" Maynard, is a Psychic Expert from Durham in England who has aquired a reputation for bringing good fortune to many sporting teams as well as individuals including X-Factor winner Leona Lewis, amongst many others. As a result Dean has been asked to use his Midas touch to help celebrities with albums, singles, awards, books and many other projects.

Dean has appeared with Westlife on the Ant and Dec show, displayed his psychic talents on the Chris Moyles radio show and has appeared live on Soccer AM.

Having heard of our success in tipping National winners Dean contacted us in 2008 with a challenge in mind: could a Psychic really do better than us and our years of horse-racing expertise? Of course not - load of mumbo jumbo! Whilst Dean seems like a lovely chap, he's clearly got a screw loose and has no chance of picking the winner...we thought!

So the challenge was agreed - we both picked four horses to see whose selections would fare best...the challenge even made the national press (see Sunday People article below). Of course, we were confident of proving Dean wrong, however he got lucky and picked the 2008 winner, Comply or Die, as one of his four selections.

Last year Dean was back again with five psychic selections for the 2012 Grand National. He said: "I looked into my crystal ball and Killyglen was the horse I was most drawn to and he can be backed at odds of 16/1 with some bookies. I also felt good vibes for Giles Cross, who is 14/1, plus 3 others and I'm confident one will win on Saturday."

Thankfully, though, the natural order was restored and our tipsters gave Dean a frightful spanking by including the first four home in their five selections, whilst none of Dean’s reached the frame.

Will last year’s embarrassment have seen Dean off once and for all? You’ll have to wait until the week before the 2013 renewal to find out!
